Collective Worship

At St Martin’s CE Primary School, our daily act of collective worship is an integral part of the day. It provides us with an opportunity to gather as a school community to reflect, think and pray. During collective worship, we reflect on our school values and promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our children.

Collective worship is led by a range of people over the week: the Senior Leadership Team, Rev Rosy, Sing Academy, class teachers, and the children.

Monday – Collective Worship led by the Worship Leaders

Tuesday – Collective Worship led by Reverend Rosy

Wednesday – Collective Worship with biblical stories - led by the Senior Leadership Team

Thursday – Collective Singing Worship

Friday – Celebration Assembly

Our worship:

  • Observes the cycle of the Church’s Year – Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Saints’ Days, using Martin the prayer bear who wears the liturgical colours associated with the church's calendar.
  • Uses the Bible as a source of knowledge and inspiration for themes and stories.
  • Allows learning and saying prayers from a number of sources, in particular the Lord’s Prayer.
  • Gives the opportunity to sing a wide variety of both modern and traditional hymns and songs.
  • Links regularly with Reverend Rosy.
  • Teaches the children about other world religions.

The nature of Acts of Worship

Our daily act of worship is an activity that:

  • Is educational and spiritually enhancing
  • Fosters a sense of community by sharing in fellowship with each other.
  • Introduces children to aspects of Christian worship and faith.
  • Encourages children to be creative, questioning and imaginative, within a Christian framework.
  • Develops an understanding and respect for faith.
  • Explores a relationship with God in Jesus Christ.
  • Allows children to reflect on school values and their own beliefs.
  • Guides children in how to consider spiritual and moral issues.
  • Supports children to develop an enquiring mind.
  • Encourages children to develop a community spirit, a common ethos and shared values.
  • Gives children the ability to foster an awareness of the world around them and a sense of their place within it.
  • Allows children to develop a sense of sharing and belonging through different groups of the community coming together.
