The Oasis – SRP – What we offer

Who are we and what are our skills?

Within the SRP we have well qualified and experienced staff. The provision for the children in the SRP is led by the SENCO and monitored by the senior leadership team.

What services can my child access?

There are a variety of different services that are available to the children in the SRP. These include:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Access to the Education Psychologist

How will you help my child transition in to your provision?

We use a range of strategies to support your child in their transition in to The Oasis.

  • Visits to their current school
  • Discussions with current teachers
  • Admission interviews with parents
  • A home visit where appropriate
  • Individual transition plan

What do you teach my child?

The children will taught an individualised curriculum, focusing on:

  • Learning and life skills
  • Communication
  • Social Skills
  • Interaction
  • Interpersonal Skill
  • Behaviour expectations

The children will also access differentiated mainstream school curriculum opportunities including, Literacy, Numeracy, Science, ICT etc.

Children will access mainstream classes for some of this teaching dependent on their individual needs and targets set within their EHC Plans

How with the curriculum be adapted to support my child?

We assess the child through, observations and assessment for learning strategies as part of our daily teaching practice.

We also track their progress termly.

How do you communicate with parents?

We communicate with parents via:

  • Phone Calls
  • Emails
  • Feedback

If parents are not available to talk to staff during the school staffs’ working hours, we will communicate using a home/school communication book.

How do we support pupils with SEN to improve their emotional and social development?

St Martin’s School is a place where children thrive socially, emotionally and academically. We are an inclusive school; we welcome and celebrate diversity. All staff believe that children having high self-esteem is crucial to a child’s well-being. We have a caring, understanding team looking after our children who feel safe, happy and valued as individuals.

• The class teacher has overall responsibility for the pastoral, medical and social care of children in their class, therefore this would be the parents’ first point of contact. If further support is required, the class teacher liaises with the SENDCo for further advice and support. This may involve working alongside outside agencies for example: Health and Social Services, CFACs and Educational Psychologists.

• The school also has a Learning Mentor (Miss Nicole Alexis) who work alongside both individual pupils and groups of pupils supporting them with any emotional and behavioural concerns they may have. All children that work with the learning mentor will be nurtured in accordance with their individual needs. There will always be children and young people in schools facing life challenges that detract from their ability to engage with learning, and some will require greater support to increase their emotional literacy than others.

• Our school is a safe place for children to attend. It has a caring ethos and prioritises the safeguarding of all children at all times. The safety and safeguarding of our children is of utmost importance. Please refer to our Frays Child Protection Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy for more information.
